Apple’s Next-Generation of iMacs to get a substantial facelift

March 20th, 2007 by james

From AppleInsider comes this:

AppleInsider has learned that Apple’s popular line of iMac personal computers are about to undergo a substantial facelift that will showcase striking new industrial designs aimed at leaving both competitors and onlookers smitten.

People familiar with the matter say the Cupertino-based Mac maker has called upon its award-winning design chief Jonathan Ive and his team to cut the fat from the the current iMac line and outfit a pair of new Core 2 Duo-based models in a form factor that will be both slimmer and sleeker than today’s offerings.

I have been debating about getting my mother one of these for awhile. Either an iMac or a Mac Mini. Well, now I have to see what upgrades are in store for the iMac before considering her next computer. I wish Apple would give the Mac Minis a necessary upgrade as well.

Hey, what’s wrong with a Mac Mini ;)

In all seriousness I run two Intel Minis (one of the higher end and one of the lower end) and once I put extra RAM in neither has skipped a beat. Unless your mother’s going to be pushing the limits of the Core Duo I think you’d be very safe with the Mini. The iMac looks slick but that’s quite a premium.

I agree she’d be safe with the Mac Mini in terms of its capabilities, but she has an old CRT monitor. I want to move her to a nice LCD and it is tempting to just get the all in on package. Plus it’d look really cool. :)
